notes

1. Nasopharynx swabs are not recommended for general bacterial culture, except for special bacteria, such as pertussis botulinum and Neisseria meningitidis.

2. In case of suspected pertussis bauteilla infection, the laboratory shall be informed in advance to prepare a special transport medium (Regan Lowe). When conditions permit, inoculating media can be provided, and

3. Transfer to the laboratory after inoculating beside the bed.

4. Nasopharynx swab can not be used to test the pathogenic bacteria of nasosinusitis.

Nasopharynx swabs have several advantages over oral swabs. In order to obtain more samples, we can stay in the pharynx for a long time, which is the reason why the positive rate of the swab is higher than that of the oral swab.

In addition, the patient has good tolerance. Usually, the surface anesthesia and contraction of the nasal mucosa can be performed first. Skilled samplers can sample patients without anesthesia.

Because the operator can stand at the back of the patient's side when sampling the nasopharynx, the patient only shows the nostril by pulling down the mask to cover the mouth without looking directly at the patient's mouth, and there is basically no pharyngeal reflex, so the risk of exposure is quite low. Individual patients may have sneezing reflex after sampling, and can also be immediately covered with elbows or paper towels.

If the collection of throat swab nucleic acid test sample is not standardized, it may cause "false negative" results, leading to delayed treatment.
