Description
Bridge guardrail is a kind of the guardrail which is used mainly on the bridges, aiming to protect vehicles from rushing out of the bridges and beautify the bridge constructions. Concrete guardrail, corrugated beam guardrail and cable guardrail are three common types of the bridge barrier. There are three embedding methods for bridge guardrail, i.e. post embedded directly type, flange connection type and type of casting the bridge guardrail and the bridge panel into a whole by reinforce steel bar.
Categories
There are many categories of bridge guardrail as below:
1). According to the setting position of the guardrail, it can be fallen into bridge side guardrail, bridge central isolation strip guardrail, and guardrail that separates the sidewalk and lanes.
2). According to the characteristics of the construction, the bridge guardrail can be beam & post guardrail(metal & concrete) guardrail, reinforced concrete wall guardrail as well as modular guardrail.
3). According to the performance of the its crush protection, the guardrail can be divided into rigid guardrail, semi-rigid guardrail and flexible guardrail.

Functions

1. Function of separation: to separate the vehicles, non vehicles as well as the pedestrian so as to improve the traffic order and guarantee the transportation safety.
2. Function of obstruction: to obstruct the bad traffic behavior so as to prevent the vehicles and the pedestrian from jaywalking.
3. Function of caution: to caution the driver the existence of the pedestrian and the non-vehicles so as to avoid traffic accidents.
4. Function of beautification: to beautify the bridges and the environment by fitting the road circumstance with different materials, different styles, and different colors of the bridge guardrail.

Points to pay attention during the construction:

1. During the construction, the constructors should master various kinds of facilities data, especially the accurate position of the various pipes embedded in the roadbed. In case there is underground communication pipes, water drain pipes or lack of filling depth to the top of culvert, the position of the post should be adjusted or the fixing method of the post should be changed.
2. When the post is embedded deep enough, it is not allowed to be pulled out for correction, instead, It is suggested that either embed the post after the foundation is tamped again or adjust the position of the post.
3. Flange plate should be fixed for bridge guardrail, but pay attention to the location of the plate and get command of the top level of the post.
